The 2019 road trip that started in Pensacola continues with driving through Alabama to Mississippi, where we made a few stops.
Along the road we found the Mississippi Petrified Forest. This gorgeous plot of nature greeted us on a gray day with beautiful petrified trees and lovely boardwalk to stroll. Inside the visitor’s center had a gift shop with rocks and crystals for purchase, as well as a museum of some fossils and petrified plants.
We did not have this park on our itinerary but found it by simply following the brown signs on the highway. It’s one of my favorite ways to find a hidden local treasure. The serene surroundings with only the sounds of a quiet brook and wind through the trees always soothes my soul.
Of course when in Mississippi we made a stop at the B.B. King Museum & Delta Interpretive Center. So much history lies within those walls of an absolute musical legend. I may not play guitar anymore and only sing in the car, but a place like this dedicated to music always brings me back to my roots. The rich stories behind the artist remind visitors how much today’s music owes gratitude and should honor the contributions of Black Americans.
In a state filled with myths, tales and folklore tied to the blues, we had to find the famous crossroads. Being the major Supernatural nerds we are, my friend and I could not leave the state of Mississippi without taking a picture with infamous sign.
We didn’t get to spend much time here, so I definitely would like to go back and make a full itinerary of more to see. So, if you’re from Mississippi or have been there, let me know in the comments where I should go next.
