Many Latinx people from my generation grew up seeing Walter Mercado give astrological predictions on Primer Impacto as they watched their elders listen to him with rapture. Walter became a mainstay in many Latinx cultures simply by being himself, flourishes and all. I’m so happy I got to write a poem about what he meant to my own family ties and Latinx identity.
